China Alkaline Protease (HS: 35079020) 2025 Latest Analysis Report
“China is a major global producer and exporter of alkaline protease, with its exports mainly consisting of mid-to-low temperature alkaline protease, widely used in local detergent, feed, and food processing industries. Imports, on the other hand, focus on high-end alkaline protease (e.g., heat-resistant, strong alkali-tolerant, and high-purity enzymes), primarily sourced from Europe (e.g., Denmark’s Novozymes and the Netherlands’ DSM) and Japan.”
Alkaline protease is a type of enzyme with high-efficiency protein hydrolysis capability under alkaline conditions (pH 9–11). As one of the most widely used industrial enzymes, it accounts for approximately 25% of the global industrial enzyme market. Alkaline protease has extensive applications across multiple industries, primarily in the detergent sector, followed by textiles, leather, food, feed, pharmaceuticals, and environmental protection.

Customs data shows that from January to May 2025, China’s total alkaline protease exports reached $1.7087 million, a year-on-year increase of 39.06%, with export volume hitting 2.08 million tons, up 70.17% year-on-year, demonstrating significant volatility. Monthly analysis reveals clear seasonality in export activity, with peak periods in January, April, and May, accounting for 24.96%, 26.56%, and 22.08% of total exports, respectively. In contrast, February and March were relatively sluggish, with February making up only 5.57% of total exports.
The latest 2025 data indicates that China’s core export markets for alkaline protease are concentrated in Colombia, Peru, Mexico, and Malaysia, collectively accounting for 47.9% of total exports. Vietnam and Laos also show strong activity, while Brazil, despite uneven monthly distribution, remains stable as a traditional market.
Due to tariff policies, although the U.S. market ranks third, exports there showed an accelerating decline in the first four months, dropping to zero starting May. Moving forward, focus should shift to Southeast Asian markets to hedge against U.S. market risks. Customs data reveals that exports to Southeast Asia have already exceeded those to the U.S. by 4.8 times.
With advancements in domestic fermentation and enzyme engineering technologies, China’s alkaline protease exports continue to grow, while import dependence gradually declines. Emerging demands in green detergents, eco-friendly leather, and functional foods are driving higher value-added exports. As an efficient and eco-friendly biocatalyst, alkaline protease holds broad application prospects and immense market potential, bolstered by China’s industrial transformation and environmental policies.
